Lady and the Pups

Professional dog walking and pet sitting for the Upper West Side

Welcome to the Lady and the Pups website. Your destination for information on dog care, cat care, adoptions, volunteering, and of course, dog walking and pet sitting. The owner, Karen K (aka the 'lady' of the business), recently ended her decade long career in marketing to run her own dog walking business.  With a passion for animals and first-hand knowledge of the busy lifestyle of 9-5 workers, Karen wanted to provide animal care service for her fellow neighbors on the Upper West Side. If you have a dog or cat and work all day, then you have come to the right place. So have a look around and feel free to reach out to Karen for your animal care needs.

Common Household Items that are Actually Poisonous to Dogs

The urge to share your food with your dog can be overwhelming, especially when they give you those adorable puppy dog eyes. However, I urge all owners to proceed with caution before sharing just any item off of your plate.  Besides the obvious weight gain and begging issues that sharing human food can bring about, some foods are actually poisonous to dogs and can greatly injure them.  Below is a brief list of foods that should not be shared with your pooch, no matter how much you love them.  I've also included a few other household items that are dangerous and should be kept off of floors and other low-lying surfaces (such as coffee tables) that dogs can easily reach.

  • alcohol
  • chocolate
  • caffeine
  • mushrooms
  • onions (including skins, powdered, etc)
